Tiny toy dogs frequently have less than perfect teeth.Because their jaws are so small the teeth can be very crowded and as the roots aren't very deep they can come out easily. It's essential to keep your chihuahua's teeth as clean and healthy as possible,so feed them sufficient hard food to take off the tartar (there are plenty of special small jaw biscuits or kibble on the market that will help.) and make sure you brush their teeth daily. You'll have to get them used to this from a very early age,so that they'll accept it as part of their daily routine. If you are concerned about the state of your chihuahua's teeth, especially as they get older and you suspect gum infection or tooth decay, take your chihuahua to the vet and get there advice. i dont say this to worry you. its just advice, ok? happy cleaning!

Teeth brushing time is the highlight of my chi's day!! I've done it with her since she was very young. My mom's dog had never had her teeth brushed, but I encouraged her to try and start. Her dog is 8yrs old. It took a few days, but now she loves it as well!! It could be the toothpaste, we use the vanilla-mint and they go bonkers over it! I don't use the finger brush, it's too big for my chi's mouth. I use a soft toddler's brush. It works so much better. Now when we go to the vet, they get lots of compliments on their pearly whites!! :)

I brush my chi's teeth with baby toothpaste which is edible. You should try it to remove the hassle of mint toothpaste which they hate.
