My advice would be to take him to your vet to be checked out to make sure its not something internal. If it isn't then your vet can help you put the little guy on a diet and exercise regimen. Hope this helps. |

My dog was overweight too. I took her to the vet and he recommended feeding her only 1 or 2x/day and to reduce her food amount by 1/3. So, now she gets a 1/4 cup of dog food spread out over 2 feedings. The weight has melted off. She looks so much healthier now! I agree with the previous comment. Go to your vet and make sure there isn't a medical reason and then follow their instructions. Also NO people food. Good luck!!

I have an overweight chi and my vet recommends veggies. Butterscotch loves green beans out of the can and also carrots. Be sure to check with your vet but maybe that might help. My chi Butterscotch weighed 9 oz when I got her an now she weighs 8 pounds after being spayed. The vet really wasn't concerned because she has a big body structure. I hope I helped you some.

I would advise you to feed him veggies as much as possible. My Chis love veggies. I would also advise you to take him for daily walks. If after trying these things he does not improve, than have your Vet run some checks.

I would definately go with the vet comment first. My chi was getting terribly overweight so I took her to the vet thinking he would tell me she was eating too much. He did some blood work and she had a malfunctioning thyroid. He put her on a thyroid replacement therapy and she lost the weight almost immediately.
Of course they don't know what to do with the Monster Chi, he is as big as a cocker, I owned his parents, they were much smaller (around 6 pounds full grown, he is 22 lbs). The vet says he's healthy, just got some extra growth hormone somewhere/somehow... |
