Has or does anyone have a Chihuahua with one?

Mine does, he has had it for at least two years and seems fine.  The vet said that he needs surgery but I am afraid of doing that.  Not to mention that it cost $3,000 and I am not sure if he would make it. :(

Any suggestions?

HI,
I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS THE SAME, BUT MY TZONTZO HAS AN UMBILICAL HERNIA, AND IT WAS OPERATED IN THE SAME TIME WITH THE NEUTER SURGERY. SHE IS VERY WELL NOW, ONE MONTH BY THE SURGERY.

I know how you feel about surgery! It is a tough decision to make. My Bella just had surgery for her liver. It was a hard decision to make and a lot due to cost, but we luckily had a trusted opinion from a close friend that could give us advice. My Bella's surgery was $2150 but if you count the tests we had done before surgery we spent a total of $3000 on her. It was not something we really had the money for so we unfortunately put in on credit and will be paying it off for a while, but we felt it was worth it (if you are interested you can read my blogs).  I know the risks are scary so I can sympothize with that. Plus, my Bella wasn't that sick before her surgery (at least once we changed her diet) but we knew that she could get much worse if we didn't do the surgery.  I hope your chi is okay....my thoughts and prayers are with you!

Thank you for repling! It is not the same as an Umbilical Cord Hernia.  He was hit by a car two years ago. He only ran into the tire and the vet we took him to said that he was fine. So I am not sure if he got it from birth (he came from a puppy mill :(  ) or if he somehow did get it from the accident.  If we had found it when we had him fixed then my vet could have done the surgery then.  Unfortunetly, my vet does not feel comfortable doing it at this point in time.  As it has been two years, we would have to go to a specialty surgeon.

I spoke with the place we would have to go to and they said the total cost from begining to end would be between $1,500 to 2,500 depending on how serious it is.

I am not sure what to do.  He doesn't have any problems. He runs around, plays and eats as much as a normal dog should.  My vet said that we have to watch him and if he stops eating and gets sick a lot then we have no choice, he needs the surgery.

Amanda, I will read your blog! Thanks again!

You can raise funds for the operation. I saw someone raising funds for the operations like baking cookies and selling them.
