Hey everybody!  I'm new to all this and currently looking into buying my second chihuahua puppy.  My first one I had was many many many years ago.  I hoping to make this the best experience for my family.

Right now I'm on the war path of researching breeders in my area...all of the breeders I find won't actually let the dog pick us (if that makes sense).  Every one sends me pictures and makes me chose online/phone and then after we decide we are allowed to visit the facilities.  Is this normal?

We did that with my husbands black lab...and all though we love her to death she isn't really "us".

Even though I know what I'm looking for...I don't really like the idea of our newest family member to be chosen by a picture or a price.            &nb sp;

Call me crazy!

Thank you...and if you think I'm crazy please call me on it.  I love any input.

Sarah

p.s.  or if you have any advice for me please feel free to tell me.

Hi There,

I am going to be watching this post carefully because I am in the market for a new chihuahua as well. I am so scared because of the puppymills and really want a healthy litlle girl. So I also ask everyone to please make suggestions as to how to obtain and where to look for a healthy puppy.

Thanks, Christina

I got my two boys from finding local rescues...Both of them have been a joy!! If you're interested it's on petfinder.com I'm telling ya you can spend hours on there. There's so many looking for homes! Real good information too!

I found out my little girl Gracie was from a puppymill ..We thought we were buying her from a breeder online but nope...poor baby has bad back legs...dang them...but I wouldn't trade her for the world. Mabel we got from a local breeder and she's just wonderful.

Love my Moosha Booshas!

I'm happy to say that we are now proud parents of a beautiful chocolate puppy...it took us awhile to find the "right" puppy.

So thank you jenbean for helping us understand that "rescue" dogs are just as good as a "breeder" dog.  We got him from a rescue organization, and are very pleased with our decision and would recommend it to everyone and anyone.

Now we just have to train him. LOL.  I also have 2 daughters (2 and 7 mths) black lab, and a cat...I'm so tired of poop...the less in my house the better.
