I heard that rabies vaccination can be dangerous.  My 1.7 lb dog is suppose to get the rabies vaccination - any advice?

 

What is the best age to get the rabies vaccination?

I honestly in my opinion would wait till the puppy is at least 6 moths. that gives him/her time to gain weight.

Most vets recommend 6 months old for Rabies so the dogs can gain some weight. These small breeds don't do well any sooner then that. You risk losing your pet-I hope you are waiting!

Due to past experience (both my chi's had bad reactions) the rabies vaccine scares me. But my vet now gives them two extra shots before that help prevent a reaction. Cooper, my oldest, had a reaction with just one of them so I have approved paying for two extra shots now! Its extra money but its well worth it! Both my girls became very swollen all over and it was very scarey so I'm extra cautious with vaccines now!

Can you tell me what the two specific vaccines were? 

Also, how quickly did your dogs swell up after the vaccine?  And what did you do to get the swelling down?

Are your dogs okay now?
