Private Chi Rescuer

I do chihuahua rescue privately.  I was once affiliated with a new Chi rescue group but did not agree with their screening/placement practices so I left that group.  I currently have two chis for adoption.

Lena is a 9-12 mo. old little fawn girl.  We found her caught in a chain link fence with her collar twisted very tightly thru the links.  She is one lucky little girl that she did not strangle herself.  Lena (short for Thumbelina) is as sweet as the day is long.  She weighs approx. 5lbs, though needs to add at least another pound as she is a bit underweight.

Gibson is estimated at 18 mo. to 2 yrs old. I received a call from one of my local shelter directors begging me to come get him as his time was up and she could not face euthanizing him because he's such an awesome little dog.  We're not sure what Gibson is mixed with, but he's gorgeous.  He does not shed like most Chi's do and, due to his earset/tailset, temperament, and other traits, we believe he may actually be a Chihuahua/Xoloitzcuintle mix.  Regardless, he is one of the sweetest dogs in the world. He's CRAZY about toys, loves other dogs, children, though he has not been tested with cats.  Gibson is very agile for a little dog and can jump quite high and can be mischievous about his escapades.  His favorite past time is jumping up into one of our bar stools then onto the kitchen island looking for morsels.

Meet Gibson:

Lena and Gibson are being fostered in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area.

I do require a veterinary reference and a home visit prior to placement.  I also adopt my rescues outon a contract which states, in part, that the dog will never be anoutside dog, will never be placed on a tie-out or the use of anelectronic bark or fencing collar, the dog will be kept on HWpreventative year round and flea/tick preventative seasonally, and iffor any reason for the remainder of the dog's life the adopter can nolonger keep the dog, he must be returend to me.  I consider all myrescue dogs to be my responsibility for the remainder of their lives& will take one of my dogs back at any time for any reason.  I alsorequire that the microchip remain in my name, I do allow the adoptersto be added as a secondary contact, but should one of my former fostersever end up in a shelter, I want to be notified so I can retrieve thedog.  Adoptions fees are merely my cost of vetting which varies dog to dog.

I just read this.  Have you placed Lena or Gibson yet? Are there a lot of chihuahuasa to rescue in your area?  Just curious.

We do still have Lena and Gibson, though Lena has totally wormed her way into our hearts and our pack, so not sure I can part with her.  But, I keep telling myself that if the PERFECT home comes along for her, then I'd let her go.
