I've often asked this question to all the members I've met and many of them are very interesting. This forum is to share with rest of the members as to how you came up with your Chi's name(s). What were some of the possible name(s) you were gonna go with? Is there story or meaning behind your Chi's name(s)?

I'll start with Echo.
I got Echo during the time I was still with my prev. ex girlfriend. She and I tried to come up with a unique name. At the time, we were into Japanese restaurants like crazy. Eating sushi & sashimi. So, she wanted to name him Sashimi... o_O I was like "nope". Sounded cool, but I don't need to have a pet named after a food. There were other names we thought of using like, Sushi, Nibbles, Astro, Bingo, Taco,.... None of them sounded interesting to me. Then I started looking up some Greek mythology names and came across a Greek myth Nymph named Echo. Fond of wood and hills, and talking. Whether it be in chat or argument, would have the last word. Although Echo is a feminine name, I thought it could be suited for boy name as well. Most people thinks that its the other echo, the repetition of sound reflected from sound waves or whatever. But, nope.. I got it from the Greek Myth. Although Echo can't talk, I'm sure he would have the last word in. He loves the wood,.. well trees to mark, twig, sticks, pinecones to chew on. LOL. So yeah, that's how I came up with Echo's name.

We were going to go with General because chi's are so small but with big personalities. As I watched him grow (through pictures) before I got him, I just couldn't see him as 'General', so I racked my brain for names. Got lots of suggestions... Mexican foods, mostly. My mother-in-law threw out a handful of suggestions, one of which was Peanut. It just seemed perfect for the little guy. Still does - I'm glad I chose it.

It took me a week to come up with a name for Brenna. I hadn't picked her up from the Breeder yet. I had several written down and kept looking at them and saying them outloud. I know it sounds crazy but, I wanted something I wasn't going to get tired of hearing. Brenna means dark haired so I went with Brenna Jewel. She is my little dark haired jewel. I have always liked the name Autumn so that was easy when I got my next Chi. from the same breeder. I like giving them two names to make it even more unique. Spice is her middle name because she has brindle coloring around her face in legs. It fits and I am so happy with both their names.

The history behind my chis' names really isn't very interesting, but I'll share it. Originally we were getting just 1, a female, so my daughters and I battled over the right name for weeks . We finally agreed on Lily. But then one of my daughters didn't agree on getting the color of the puppy we had chosen...fawn&white. Believe it or not, we convinced my husband that getting Lily's blue&tan brother made perfect sense and he agreed. So then we had to find a boy's name that we all liked...no easy task...till someone suggested Jackson. We took it. Several months later when I decided that I wanted to breed so I needed another female, I made a unilateral decision that her name would be Layla, one of my choices the 1st time. When one of my daughters fell in love with Layla's brother, again she convinced her dad that he had to come home with us. She even knew what she would name him...Toby. Not much of a story, but that's it. |

My Butterscotch's name was given to her by my mother-in-law, she came to see her and said what color is she? I told her she was fawn & white, she came in and corrected me and told me she was butterscotch & white. So there is where her name came from, she is actually butterscotch & white. My little Tojo already had his name so I asked his previous owner why she named him Tojo. She told me she named him after the wrestler a long time ago, because he would jump on all of her pomeranians and try to play with them, even though he was tiny, weighing a whopping 2 1/2 pounds when she had him.

Chuy was already named when we got him. I like it so much because it's a nickname for someone from Chihuahua, Mexico. My husband has a cousin named Chuy.
The real deal was that he was named "Chewy" after Chewbaca from Star Wars because when he talks, he sounds like Chewbaca. He's got a really unusual bark and a real cute talking voice.
Frida was name before we found her. We knew we'd get a girl and I already knew her name would be Frida for the Mexican Artist (painter), Frida Kahlo. Funny thing is that our Frida is black and has a white tip on her tail like a paint brush! It was meant to be. :)) |

I got Magellan when he picked me at 3 days old so when I go visit my mom he was always leaving his momma to find me even before his eyes were opened. Then when his eyes did open he would explore everywhere inside and outside. My mom actually had to put a chicken wire cage around the bed at night cause he just wouldn't stay in bed. So he's named after the spainish explorer Magellan.
Funny part is that as soon as he came home with me he never went exploring again mom says it's cause he was looking for me all that time. |
