Hello I have a fast question for you…my little one was started on puppy chow. This is what I was told by the person we got her from. We bought puppy chow and Royal Canine and she ate for the first week…not the best but she was eating. Her eating has slowed down now, over the last two days we seem to have to feed her by hand and she really hates the Royal Canine now. She east treats and the Kong stuff out of the toy but is fussy about her food. She is going to the bathroom regularly but I am becoming concerned. I did buy a supplement tube of stuff to put on a chew bone so she does not lose needed nutrients. Anyone have ideas to get her to eat?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Chihuahuas are tend to be finicky. Mine sure was for the longest time. He still is from time to time. Do you feed her food as is or soften it? Try softening it, if you haven't. I used to use chicken broth. Heat it up a bit and add her food to it. Or, try adding little bit of her favorite treats or some other stuff to entice her meal. If none of these helps,.. just let her be. She'll eat eventually on her own when she gets hungry enough. Just make sure to keep eyes on her. Keeping track of when she ate last and how much she's been running around playing and stuff.

Thanks for all the help..we did add the chicken broth yesterday. She had some but again not an entire protion but hell maybe an entire protion is too much.
I will keep my eye on her for a bit, she is running around and playing but not as much as she usually does.

My pups are the same way. So is my father-in-laws chi.
What I found was to get the can food that has sliced food. I warm it up in the microwave and I feed it to them by hand. They eat more now then they ever have. To make sure there stoles are not to soft, I give them dry food by hand as a treat. They eat just enough to keep them more firm if you know what I mean. I have yet to get them to eat out of a bowl, but as long as they eat I'm ok with it. I hope this helps you. BTW: I like to keep there dry food the same brand as the can. They say you should not give them to many kinds of food. Fran |
